Map the Xfinity equipment before changing settings

The Xfinity device may be a router, a modem/router gateway, an ONT/router combination, or one part of a larger setup. How to reach the Xfinity settings?

1. Connect to the home LAN served by the Xfinity gateway or the downstream router you intentionally installed.

If the Xfinity administrator password is rejected

Current xFi gateways may require the local Admin Tool to be enabled in the Xfinity app. The Admin Tool username is admin; current setup requires an admin password created/changed for the gateway rather than assuming a universal password. Check the label wording carefully because a wireless key, device access code, administrator password, and account sign-in can be different values. Using a personal router with Xfinity

Before enabling bridge mode, IP passthrough, DMZ-to-router, or another handoff method, record which Xfinity services depend on the supplied gateway. Television, voice, static addressing, IPv6, authentication, and remote support can be coupled to provider equipment. After the change, confirm which device now owns NAT, DHCP and inbound firewall rules so you do not configure port forwarding on the wrong router.

Reset consequences on Xfinity equipment

A factory reset can remove the Wi-Fi name, local administrator state, forwards, reservations, parental controls, bridge/passthrough changes, and other custom settings.
