10.0.0.1 is a private IPv4 address used by Xfinity WiFi Gateways and many unrelated private networks. On supported Xfinity gateways, the current Admin Tool workflow is controlled from the Xfinity app before you open http://10.0.0.1.

How does Xfinity Admin Tool access work now?

For newer Xfinity WiFi Gateways, Xfinity documents an Admin Tool online access switch in the Xfinity app. Open WiFi → View WiFi equipment → Advanced settings → Admin Tool online access, enable access, save, and then open http://10.0.0.1 while connected to the home network. Xfinity currently lists XB6, XB7, XB8, and XB10 among the newer gateway families that support this toggle; older Wireless Gateway 1, Wireless Gateway 2, and XB3 models do not use the same toggle workflow. Which password should you use?

The Wi-Fi passphrase, Xfinity account password, and local Admin Tool password are separate credentials. Do not enter any of them into a third-party website.

What if 10.0.0.1 opens but the setting you need is missing?

Xfinity has moved many customer-facing Wi-Fi controls into the Xfinity app. A limited local page does not automatically mean the gateway is malfunctioning. Check the current Xfinity support path for the setting before resetting a working gateway. If the Admin Tool access switch is off on a supported gateway, the local interface can also be intentionally unavailable until access is enabled.

How does Bridge Mode change access?

Bridge Mode changes which device performs routing for the home. When a personal router is connected behind an Xfinity gateway in Bridge Mode, client devices normally use the personal router—not 10.0.0.1—as their default gateway. That does not mean the Xfinity gateway disappeared; it means the management path is no longer the same as the ordinary client routing path. Xfinity staff guidance for bridge-mode cases can require a direct Ethernet connection to the gateway and a compatible local address before opening 10.0.0.1. Treat Bridge Mode as a topology change, not a password problem.

What does the 10.0.0.0/8 private range mean?

RFC 1918 reserves 10.0.0.0/8 for private use. That is a range of more than sixteen million addresses, not one enormous home LAN by default. A home gateway at 10.0.0.1 commonly uses a much smaller prefix such as 10.0.0.0/24. The subnet mask or prefix length determines which addresses are actually local. This matters when a VPN, work network, lab, hotel, or second router also uses part of 10/8.

Could 10.0.0.1 be a Piso WiFi controller instead of Xfinity?

Yes. The same private address can be reused on completely unrelated networks. A Piso WiFi customer portal, an AdoPiSoft controller, an Xfinity gateway, and a lab router can all use 10.0.0.1 without being connected to one another. Identify the page you actually see before following instructions. A customer portal that sells time or shows session status is not the same thing as an Xfinity Admin Tool, and operator/admin access belongs only to the network owner.

What should you check when 10.0.0.1 does not open?

  1. Read the current default gateway. If your device shows another gateway, use that value first.
  2. Confirm the network. Stay on the main home LAN; guest Wi-Fi, VPN routes, or mobile-data fallback can prevent local access.
  3. Identify the device role. If a personal router is now the edge router, 10.0.0.1 may belong to an upstream Xfinity box rather than the device your client uses for routing.
  4. For supported Xfinity gateways, check the app access toggle. Do this before a factory reset.
  5. Reset only with a recovery plan. A reset can remove Wi-Fi, bridge, forwarding, and other configuration, and provider equipment may need to reprovision.

Security note

Keep the Admin Tool local, disable temporary online access when Xfinity instructs you to do so, and use a unique administrator password. If Bridge Mode moves firewall responsibility to your personal router, make sure that router is fully configured and updated before relying on it as the internet edge.
